Porting to Jethro: How to Keep Your Old Phone Number
By: Sierra Schallock - Marketing Specialist, Jan 23, 2021

Sometimes it is hard to know all the information you may need to keep your old phone number when switching to a new service provider. First things first, what is porting a number?Porting is the process of transferring your phone number from one service provider to another.
Overall, the main thing you need to be concerned with is that the information you gave to your previous service provider matches the information you give Jethro. Otherwise, you may run into an error. The reason the information must match exactly is to verify that the number being requested belongs to you.
The information you will need to port in a number from most carriers is the current account holder’s name, the account number, and the pin number. Oftentimes, you will have to call your previous carrier’s customer service line to get this information.
Also, the pin number is going to be a number generated by your previous carrier, not a number you may typically use for things such as a password or voicemail code. You will also need to ensure that the service address given to the new carrier matches the address originally given to the first carrier, even if you don’t live there anymore.

Port protections can be put on phone numbers for a few different reasons such as you set up a payment plan for your phone or to simply prevent an unauthorized user from porting out your number.

Overall, the account profile from your previous service provider has to match the account profile given to the new service provider. The main reason for this is to make sure that the phone number is not given to someone who should not have it. While it can make life a little more difficult, it makes sure that only you can have the phone number rather than an unauthorized user.
The information needed varies between each service provider, but typically you will need: 1. The account holder’s name 2. Account number 3. Pin number 4. Address listed on the service provider’s account 5. No port protection
